| Hello, this is Carla Cooper. I am new to the group. In researching my family, I found my great great great grandfather was John Stewart. He was known as Jack of the Hill. I believe he was from Perth Scotland. Does anyone know why he was called Jack of the Hill? Thanks for any help you can give. |

Welcome to the Stewarts of Balquhidder forum. Please provide more specific information such as dates and exact locations. Our area of focus is specifically southwest Perthshire. If your ancestor came from elsewhere in Perthshire we may not be able to assist you. I would presume he was called "Jack of the Hill" because he lived on a hill. But I'm afraid there's no way for us to know the actual answer to that question for certain.

| John Stewart was born on 2/11/1804 in Stronuich, Perthshire, Scotland. Him and his brother Angus move to Ontario, Canada. His parents were Archibald and Ann Stewart. I know there is a book written about them called Heather to Hill I believe. I just dont have access to it. I am trying to reach the woman that wrote it (Margaret Stewart Bennet-Alder from Canada. I cannot for the life of me figure out who Archibald and Ann Stewart's parents were. I believe they were from Glen Lyon, just not sure.Carla |
