Ricardo,
The urls are truncated in the middle, so the actual url we need to translate is missing. Try using the URL tags around the url to let it post. See below for an example of what you need to do in a code window to let it show.

| [url]http://your.url[/url] |

| You can post links after 5 posts I beleive, and as you are 4 your next post or one more and you can then post the link without codes. |

Terry, the more I see of such blogs such as that one, the more the mystery around boats evaporates. Those mast construction pics reveal just how simple things can be produced.
I think that some have tried to retain an air of mystery around such things to preserve their "authority", and whilst I dont doubt that one must consult engineers in order to ensure that loads are accounted for, the actual construction is much more common sense based, and there are people that will design and load test a structure on computers and output a plan for just about anything now which enables laymen to make just about anything.
I think Mike (Whimsical) has posted a pic of our wing masts somewhere, and whilst he did not include construction and layup scheds (we dont have that yet) it again shows that almost anything can be done. Free standing wing masts 700mm deep at the base, with a hinge just above the boom for "folding" the mast down. Brilliant! |

Paul, I like to share this blog because to me, it is the building history that blow the biggest number of "stabilished common sense":
1 - The cat is BIG
2 - It's made of wood / Ply
3 - The builder is the designer and IS NOT a naval engineer
4 - The builder is 50+ years old
5 - He built the mast (wing!)
7 - By the pictures you can see that there is no Hi tech tools/building techniques . . .
etc . . .

Yes Ricardo, I agree. And the more people achieve in personal design and construction the more the mystery is removed. I am a first time builder but I did not trust my ability to design or even to build from a design so I bought a kit with many parts pre cut by machine.
Now I have learnt so much about the building I can see that a lot is common sense and that anyone can do it and there really is not much mystery to it.
I congratulate anyone that achieves this and I recommend it to anyone. Building a boat is one of the most satisfying things you can do, sailing it around the world would also be very satisfying I am sure.
I dont yet know how to sail but I know I will learn once our boat is launched. I too am nearly 50 and also have a blog.
Welcome to the forum, a great contribution. |
