My husband's 2xgreat grandfather is Isaac Dawson c1820.
I do not have his birth certificate but I have a copy of his marriage certificate and his death certificate.
He married Sarah Wilson on 7th December, 1847 in the Register Office, Newcastle upon Tyne.
Isaac's address is Higham Place, Newcastle
Sarah's address is Orchard Street, Newcastle.
Isaac's father is Simpson Dawson and his occupation is Joiner.

Witnesses are: Joseph Temperley and Simpson Septimus Dawson.

Isaac died on 31st July, 1851, at Diana Street, Westgate. The informant was SS Dawson, 4 Hadley Terrace, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Isaac and Sarah had three children, John Wilson Dawson, Ruth Jane Dawson and Sarah Isaac Dawson. My husband's great grandmother is Sarah Isaac Dawson.

Isaac's wife, Sarah remarried Abraham Hutchinson and came to Australia in 1867.

Ryk, I have looked at your Dawson page and find so many similar names amongst the Australian Dawsons that there must be some connection.
The names Nicholas, Temperley and Ruth are quite common.

Maybe we can find some connection

Julie

I have Simpson Septimus Dawson in my database b ca 1807 as the son of Simpson Dawson and Ruth Temperley. I show children for them being:
1. Joseph Dawson b 1804
2. Nicholas Temperly Dawson b 1806
3. Simpson Septimus Dawson, b 1807
4. Thomas Dawson b 1809
5. Ruth Dawson b 1812
6. John Dawson b 1816

I would bet my week's salary that your Isaac Dawson is a 7th child of this family, making him a younger brother of SS Dawson who witnessed his marriage. I would presume Joseph Temperly is a cousin on their mother's side. Given the uniqueness of the name Sipson Septimus Dawson I think it's a pretty safe conclusion to jump to given they have the same father's name. I will add Isaac and his data into the database accordingly.

Ryk
Just been checking through a few of our connections.
Ebenezer Dawson b1834, you don't have his death information.
He died on 6th May, 1905 and his Probate was granted on 11th July, 1905.

Julie

Thanks for the additional information.

Umm...I don't know how to raise this with you in a gentle and sensitive way, but have you noticed there's a wee bit of a challenge with Isaac's death date and your husband's great-grandmother's birth date?

Isaac Dawson died on 31 MAY 1851. His daughter, Sarah, was born posthumously on 21 MAR 1852. That's 9 months and three weeks after her father's death. That's a little...umm...impossible. Even if Isaac died mid-coitus Sarah would still have been born dangerously late and would not likely have survived childbirth. It seems a bit of a stretch. It would appear to me that Isaac's widow received some "comfort" in her time of grieving. Have you given thought to the possibility that Isaac may not really be Sarah's father? I'd be very curious to learn just how quickly Sarah (Sr) remarried Abraham Hutchinson.

Ryk

Isaac died on 31st July not May. Very Happy
It is still very close I know but I think she just makes it.

Sarah remarried in 1856 and had four more children all of whom came to Australia also.

Sarah Isaac Dawson had twin sons on board the ship on the way to Australia. They are registered as Marine Births in Queensland, which is where they landed. The one twin lived for three days and the other for five days. I have a copy of the birth and death certificates for one of the boys. The certificates give the gps co-ords for the births and deaths and it was off the west coast of South Africa just before the Cape of Good Hope. I can't help imagining what is must have been like to be 15 years old giving birth to twins off the Cape of Good Hope.
The father of the twins is Thos. Carr, Saddler, 19yo, from Blaydon, Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Oops. My bad. Copying error there. Yes, she does appear to just squeak in under the wire.

Hi Julie/Ryk,

It seems there was a private message(s) exchanged which may have included birthdates of Isaac Dawson's children. Simpson Septimus Dawson is in my database as well along with his kids, and I'd like to keep current too! Very Happy

Could one of you post or pm me this info as well please (or post a note on this thread when you update your database Ryk).

Cheers, Brian
