What a wonderful way to share info.
I married into the Stewart line. I have been working on my husbands genealogy. I have it back to possible Appin area. My husband John Stewart would like to participate in the DNA research. What would be the most efficient way to find a lab and to compare with your research?
My husband is John Stewart b1945, Los Angeles, CA
father: Charles Neil Stewart b1914, Seattle, WA
father: John James Stewart b1879, Fourchu, Nova Scotia
father: Charles Stewart b1834, Grinsay, Kallin, North Uist, Invernessshire, Scot
father: John Stewart b1800, Kallin North Uist, Invernessshire, Scot
father: ? Stewart b?Appin
The research for our family genealogy has been a wonderful experience. The history of Scotland has been complicated and luxuriously interesting.
Any help would be appreciated, Ann Stewart |

Ann,
The Appin Stewarts are no relation to our Balquhidder Stewarts, so, strictly from a genealogical perspective, we're unable to assist you. However, you mentioned an interest in DNA research, so I have moved your inquiry to our Stewart DNA section because I believe Belinda (our DNA Custodian) is expanding her research beyond just the Balquhidder Stewarts for purpose of comparison, so she may be interested in your inquiry.

Hi Ann
I've a personal preference for Family Tree DNA for Y-DNA tests. It's a big and well-run company and lots of Stewarts have been tested by them. If you join via the Stewart DNA Project you get a discount. There are other good companies around but that would be my choice, after having about 6 male relatives tested there. None of them are Stewarts, unfortunately, as all my direct Stewart links are maternal, and well back up the tree.
I do know that at least one of my Stewart cousins has been tested there as well (can't remember if he's 8th or 10th cousin, off-hand.)
I think the direct link is to www.familytreeDNA.com, or google on familytreeDNA to find their site. Put Stewart in the search block and go from there.
